First of all you need a camera with manual controls or shutter priority, a tripod, and a subject. Once you set your camera on the tripod set a slow shutter speed of about 0.5. Then, ask your subject to run in front of your camera and time it so you take the picture when he is in front of your camera. Then you have your very first ghost shot. The reason for this is since you have such a long shutter speed the shutter opens when your subject is there but your subject is gone by the time it closes. So, since it was able to capture your subject as well as everything behind it you can see "through" your subject.
